After the passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, President Trump called upon the Senate to confirm the next Justice “without delay”. It is imperative for this seat to be filled to have a complete court before the 2020 election. If the election results happen to be disputed- the case may rise to the Supreme Court.
The president has no choice but to fill this seat. America cannot risk having a deadlocked court in this November’s election. It is possible to see a 4-4 split, which would incite even more discord among Americans. While it is the president’s duty to appoint justices to the Supreme Court- leftists and the mainstream media has engaged in extreme backlash against the president.
Leftists are fearful that more originalists will be added to the court who interpret the Constitution as it was intended. Among these disputers is Joe Biden. The candidate who is still over 40 days away from any potential election claims he should have the right to make the nomination. A rather embarrassing statement for the Biden campaign.
Biden’s comments on the Supreme Court nomination come highly hypocritical as well. In 2016, Biden announced, “I would go forward with the confirmation process as chairman. Even a few months before the presidential election”. Now in 2020 he warns senators, “Don’t vote to confirm anyone nominated under the circumstances President Trump and Senator McConnell have created”.
Biden has no claim to making a nomination. He ought to sit back, and allow the constitutional process to take place. The Supreme Court is not an arena to be stacked with political players. If Joe Biden cared more about the deliverance of justice over the game of politics- he would not be ridiculing the president’s motion.
